Supersuckers
Get It Together!
(Mid-Fi)
Record Review by Marcel Feldmar
I loves me some Supersuckers. I mostly loves them when they get all old country, but even when they do themselves some good ol’ rooftop raising rock ‘n’ rollin’ – it’s a good times for all sorta thing. Here, they are rocking like only the Supersuckers can. “Anything Else” is the second song, but it hits like the first. Hard and heavy and all dark and driving country punk. Makes me want some whiskey, like right now.
The twang is hard, but the beats are strong, and this moves strong and loud with slices of classic rock, old time roots rock, a good ol’ helping of bar band anthemic guitar and serious moments of air-punching in head banging glory.
The band manages to bring in a whole slew of riff-ripping influences, from rousing Ramones style choruses to little Muddy Waters licks and ZZ Top guitar play that sometimes manages to slide hard into AC/DC territory, but never once does the band fall out of where they are going or who they are. Who they are, or so I have heard, is the Greatest Rock and Roll Band in the World. Play this loud enough, with a bottle full of your alcohol of choice, and it’ll seem like it’s probably true. “I’m A Fucking Genius” will get me banging in the aisles every time.
While Eddie Spaghetti and crew are not breaking any new ground, they’re definitely still going strong, doing what they love doing and having fun doing it too, and we’re having fun listening. Ending the album with “Come Along For The Ride” is just perfect. Driving and dark and supersacrilicious and you know you aren’t going to decline the offer. |
